Mountain Line - fixed route service in Flagstaff

FLAGSTAFF, AZ (December 30, 2014) – In the interest of public safety and based on the National Weather Service’s hazardous storm advisory in effect until Thursday, January 1, Mountain Line is canceling the extended service hours on New Year’s Eve. Weather permitting, all buses will run on a regular schedule, with the last buses leaving downtown between 9:15-9:45 p.m. and service will still be FREE all day.

Mountain Line officials participated in a conference call with the National Weather Service and other regional government agencies this morning. The predictions for hazardous travel conditions, limited visibility, and the timing of the storm necessitated this service change. In addition, travel via public transit requires walking to and from a bus stop, which creates its own safety issues considering the snow, wind, and low temperatures predicted.

“The safety of our riders, operators and general public is our number one priority,” said NAIPTA CEO & General Manager Jeff Meilbeck. “Scaling our service back and choosing to not be on the roads is the right thing to do given the forecast information we have received.”. (view .pdf version )
